I started whitescreen.info after one too many searches for "white screen" landed me on a page smothered in ads that took three seconds to load a single flat colour. That is an absurd amount of machinery for something a browser can paint instantly. So I built the version I wanted: one tap to fullscreen, no tracking pixels dressed up as features, no cookie wall between you and a white rectangle.
The testing side comes from years of unboxing monitors, laptops and phones and checking them properly inside the return window — running solid-colour passes, comparing what different manufacturers' pixel policies actually promise, and learning the hard way which "defects" are really dust. That experience is what the guides on this site are built on.
What we make
Twelve fullscreen colour screens — white, black, red, green, blue, yellow, orange, pink, purple, cyan, magenta and grey — plus brightness control, a custom colour picker, and image download. Every screen fills the display edge to edge, works offline once loaded, and runs the same way on a phone as on a 32-inch monitor.
Who actually uses this
- People checking a new screen. A flat colour is the fastest way to find dead pixels, stuck subpixels, dust and backlight bleed before a return window closes.
- Anyone on camera. A white screen held at chest height is a soft, free key light for video calls and interviews.
- Repair technicians and IT teams. Quick pass/fail checks on devices without installing diagnostic software.
- Photographers and designers. Grey and white fields for spotting sensor dust, lens smudges and colour casts.
- People who just need to focus. A blank screen is a surprisingly effective way to clear visual noise.
How we test what we publish
Every tool change is checked on real hardware before it ships: an IPS desktop monitor, a MacBook display, an OLED phone, and an older TN laptop panel that reveals problems the good screens hide. We test fullscreen behaviour in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, on both desktop and mobile, because the Fullscreen API behaves differently on iOS than anywhere else — a difference that shaped how the fullscreen button on this site works.
Guides go through the same discipline. If an article says a method sometimes revives a stuck subpixel, that is because we have tried it and watched it work occasionally and fail often, and the article says so. Where a claim rests on a published standard — ISO 9241-307 pixel fault classes, for instance — we name the standard so you can check it yourself rather than taking our word for it.
What we will not do
- No ads. An ad-funded white screen is a contradiction. There are none, and none are planned.
- No accounts. Nothing here needs to know who you are.
- No dark patterns. No fake urgency, no "premium" screens, no newsletter modal thrown in front of the tool.
- No invented expertise. If we have not tested something, we do not claim results for it.
